Google SSL encryption raises SEO concerns

Google recently introduced an SSL-encrypted version of its search engine, which may have effects on search engine optimization (SEO) campaigns.

SSL encryptions are already used for the company’s other services, including Gmail and Google Docs. While this offers users better privacy, it does have potential disadvantages for SEO campaigns.

Keyword research is important to building a successful SEO campaign. This involves having to analyze what terms browsers used to find what they need on the internet. SSL encryption will prevent that, because it prevents referral data from being sent. This means that analytical tools will not be able to now what term the user typed in for search.

If this is indeed the case, it will weaken many SEO campaigns
